Dial-Up is A Dinosaur

Dial-Up is A Dinosaur

Do you remember trying to connect to the internet and hearing that cacophony of beeps, rings and static sound while you sat back and waited to connect to the World Wide Web? Back in the ‘old days’ when it took a full five minutes to connect to the internet, let alone download a wallpaper for your desktop. You would just stare blankly at the computer screen, waiting and waiting for an image to appear.

Well, fast-forward almost thirty years. Internet speeds have progressed exponentially and waiting anything longer than ten seconds for an image to load is considered unacceptable. This month, South Korea announced that it would be upgrading its network for 5G capability by 2020 (at a mere cost of $1.5 billion).

South Korea has always been one of the world’s leaders in connectivity. The country played a large role in fueling growth of 2G services in the 1990s, 3G in the 2000s and 4G around 2010. It has now decided to take it a step farther and introduce 5G in the next ten years. This would mean that a full-length feature film would download in one second. It sounds almost unbelievable (especially when there are still many countries around the world which still are on broadband and make downloading a movie near impossible or extremely expensive) but it just is a sign of the times of how fast our technology is evolving.

Andrew Rodych

"Red Cherry was a fantastic firm to work with for our web design and SEO needs. From the initial quote, through scoping, design, and final product, the process with Dan and the entire team was excellent. We needed to take our website to a more polished level, and keep lots of key functionality, including specific tools to our industry - Red Cherry was able to do it all! Highly recommend their approach and work product."
